SCE Project

The Pedigree Welsh Pig Society (PWPS) was successful in applying for Supply Chain Efficiencies Scheme (SCES) funding from the Welsh Government in April 2009. The funding was provided to help increase the number of Pedigree Welsh Pigs in the national herd, increase the membership of the Society and to  work towards a sustainable future for the Pedigree Welsh Pig.

The project to date has been successful in building both the membership and registered pig numbers. This has been achieved against a background of very difficult trading conditions within the UK pig industry. Finished pig prices have remained fairly stable but feed and other input costs have risen sharply reducing margins and resulting profit.

The project will continue to explore a variety of opportunities ranging from stimulation of commercial activities via supply chain initiatives to identifying and exploiting alternative revenue streams.
